Following a sell-out seven month season in 2019, RANDOM INTERNATIONAL’s unmissable Rain Room has reopened for an encore summer season.
The epitome of socially distant art, Rain Room is a 100 square metre expanse of torrential rainfall that responds to your presence and movement; protecting you from the rain as you navigate the space and allowing you to take centre stage in a mesmerising merging of art, technology, and nature.
A smash hit last summer school holidays, Rain Room has resumed child-friendly sessions, designed to introduce this unforgettable artwork to little ones in a fun and interactive format. Available daily, look for sessions marked ‘KIDS FRIENDLY’ on Ticketek.TICKETS NOW ON SALE
On the corner of Fitzroy and Acland Streets, St Kilda
To celebrate Rain Room’s record-breaking Melbourne season, iconic cake makers, Black Star Pastry, have created a limited-edition Rain Cake, inspired by the work. Exclusive to Black Star Pastry’s St Kilda store – located under Rain Room’s Jackalope Pavilion – the Rain Cake is the first in a series of art projects in which Black Star Pastry will collaborate with renowned artists and institutions, creating edible adaptions of iconic works. The Rain Cake is quite literally the dessert after the sensory feast that is a walk through this globally significant work. While Rain Room indulges your sense of sight, touch and sound, the Rain Cake closes the sensory circle, spoiling your sense of smell and taste.
Rain Room is an immersive art installation that allows you to walk through a downpour of continuous rain without getting wet. Motion sensors detect the movements of the human body as visitors navigate through the darkened space, becoming performers in this intersection of art, technology and nature. Please allow 30 minutes from your ticketed session time to experience Rain Room. This allows for your introduction to the work, 15 minutes inside Rain Room and time to explore the gift shop after.
The No. 16 Tram runs from the Melbourne’s CBD to St Kilda, with several stops located along Fitzroy Street. The No. 96 also runs from Melbourne’s north to St Kilda. We recommend disembarking at Stop 135 – Acland Street, opposite the Prince Hotel. If driving, on-site parking is available via the Jackson Street entrance to the Prince Hotel carpark, off-street parking is available on Acland and Fitzroy Streets.

We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your session to ensure you have adequate time to park and store your belongings in provided lockers. Session start times are to be strictly observed. Patrons who arrive more than five minutes after the start time may not be admitted to the exhibition. Should you miss your scheduled time, we will endeavour to accommodate you if a subsequent spot is available. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a rescheduled visit
To reduce the possibility of getting wet, visitors are advised to progress slowly and sensibly through the Rain Room. Should you move too quickly, you may catch the drops of rain that have already fallen ahead of you. Visitors are discouraged from wearing dark, shiny or reflective fabric. Flat-soled shoes must always be worn (no heels please). Oh, and you won’t need an umbrella!
Over 500,000 people have experienced the Rain Room internationally and it is suitable for everyone. We request that children under 13 are accompanied by an adult and advised not to run or play. Children under the age of three are free but need to remain by the adult ticketholder’s side. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters can be taken into the exhibition provided they weigh less than 500kg and are less than 1.5m in length.
