Rain Room acknowledges the Boon Wurrung people as the traditional custodians of the St Kilda region.
Rain Room is an immersive art installation that allows you to walk through a downpour of continuous rain without getting wet. Motion sensors detect the movements of the human body as visitors navigate through the darkened space, becoming performers in this intersection of art, technology and nature. Please allow 30-40 minutes from your ticketed session time to experience Rain Room. This allows for your introduction to the work, 20 minutes inside Rain Room and time to explore the gift shop after.
The No. 16 Tram runs from the Melbourne’s CBD to St Kilda, with several stops located along Fitzroy Street. The No. 96 also runs from Melbourne’s north to St Kilda. We recommend disembarking at Stop 135 – Acland Street, opposite the Prince Hotel. If driving, on-site parking is available via the Jackson Street entrance to the Prince Hotel carpark, off-street parking is available on Acland and Fitzroy Streets.

These school holidays, bring your family to a kid-friendly session at Rain Room. Specifically designed for the young and young at heart, our kid’s sessions aim to introduce the wonderful world of the Rain Room art experience to children by exploring its concepts and ideas in an interactive, fun format that lets kids be kids and where it’s A-OKAY to get a little wet. Look for times marked ‘KIDS SESSION’ in the session times.
Children must be accompanied by their parent/guardian at all times. Please bring towels and a change of clothes for you and your family. Kid’s sessions are designed for families with children 12 years and under. Rain Room will not admit children unaccompanied under the age of 16. Running until 27 January 2020.
Private viewings are available for Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings in February, starting from $750 for 30 minutes and up to 20 guests.

We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your session to ensure you have adequate time to park and store your belongings in provided lockers. Session start times are to be strictly observed. Patrons who arrive more than five minutes after the start time may not be admitted to the exhibition. Should you miss your scheduled time, we will endeavour to accommodate you if a subsequent spot is available. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a rescheduled visit
To reduce the possibility of getting wet, visitors are advised to progress slowly and sensibly through the Rain Room. Should you move too quickly, you may catch the drops of rain that have already fallen ahead of you. Visitors are discouraged from wearing dark, shiny or reflective fabric. Flat-soled shoes must always be worn (no heels please). Oh, and you won’t need an umbrella!
Over 500,000 people have experienced the Rain Room internationally and it is suitable for everyone. We request that children under 13 are accompanied by an adult and advised not to run or play. Children under the age of three are free but need to remain by the adult ticketholder’s side. Wheelchairs, forward-facing strollers and mobility scooters can be taken into the exhibition provided they weigh less than 500kg and are less than 1.5m in length.
